ABERDARES
NATIONAL PARK & MT KENYA
The
aberdares ranges forest is renowned for their botanical riches and
torrential waterfalls plunging from cloud shrouded heights to spray
filled ravines. The falls include the Gura Water falls and the queens
cave pavilion was the site for the 1959 royal picnic lunch for Queen
Elizabeth and her husband Prince Phillip.
The park hosts some of the world re-known tree hotels the Treetops
and the Ark Tree lodge [Fairmont hotels].
This Aberdares is ideal for wilderness trekking and it’s very
rich in wildlife it’s said that over 2000 elephants roam the
clouded hills.
Rhinos, warthog, bush pig, giant forest hog, water buck, duiker,
suni, dikdik, reedbuck, shy and the very rare bongo are all habitats
of this high moorlands mountain ranges. It’s also a bird watchers
haven.
