Praro Amboseli Camp
Praro Amboseli is a tented camp that is located inside Aloca conservancy that borders Amboseli National Park. Covering an area of 35,000 acres, the private Aloca conservancy is shared by a few other tented camps, and it borders Amboseli National Camp.
The camp sits below Mt. Kilimanjaro, the world’s highest freestanding mountain and guests can enjoy stunning views on a clear day.
Featuring 46 rooms, Praro Amboseli Camp is just a short drive away from Kimana Gate, one of the entrance gates to Amboseli National Park. It takes about 15 minutes to cover the distance of about 11 kilometers between the camp and the park gate. Amboseli National park is home to biggest herds of free roaming elephants with big bulls carrying some of the biggest tusks to be found anywhere in Africa.
The camp’s is strategically located in a prime wilderness area with plenty of wildlife seen right from the main area and from some of the rooms. Some of the wildlife that is often sighted from the camp are Elephants, Giraffes, and Several species of antelopes including the rare Kudu and Gerenuk, Baboons and on some occasions Lions, Buffalos and Cheetahs.
The dam In front of Praro Amboseli camp becomes active throughout the day with all the mentioned wildlife and a variety of bird species visiting it to drink water or wallow in the mud during the hottest hours of the day.
The camp features several relaxing areas with both indoor and outdoor lounges, fully stocked bar area and a TV lounge. There are also two camp fire stations; where guests get to enjoy their drinks before dinner or after dinner. The camp has two spacious indoor and outdoor dining areas and a wine cellar, buffet areas featuring live cooking stations for local and international cuisines.
Out of the 46 rooms at the camp, one is a family villa that has two rooms interconnected by a lounge, two junior family tents: one interconnected by walkway and one having spacious room that takes one double bed and two single beds.
All the rooms at Praro Amboseli Camp have indoor lounges and outdoor relaxation areas. They all have ensuite bathrooms with indoor showers with both cold and hot running water, A vanity, flushing toilets, study desks among, ceiling fan, over the bed fan and tea and coffee making facilities.
The camp also has a swimming pool that faces the wildlife-frequented dam, making it such a beautiful place to cool off and relax during the hottest hours of the day as you enjoy some wildlife passing.
Guests staying at Praro Amboseli Camp can choose to enjoy game drives at either Aloca Conservancy or at Amboseli National Park. Aloca conservancy is characterized by a diversity of landscapes and habitats and is a key migratory corridor and dispersal area used by wildlife species from Amboseli National Park to Chyulu and Tsavo West National Park.
One of the advantages of staying at Praro Amboseli Camp is the possibility of enjoying walking safaris and night game drives at the Aloca conservancy.
The camp is easily accessible thanks to a well-developed road infrastructure from Nairobi, and Amboseli and Kimana airstrips, which one can fly into. Driving from Nairobi to Amboseli National Park takes about 4.5 hrs.
One can also connect from Amboseli to Tanzania through the Namanga or Oloitoktok borders if they are on a Kenya and Tanzania combined safari tour.
